I made a new year’s solution to make a mix and publish it every week. Also, I pledge never to do the same genre in the same month. So for the second week of March, I am gonna do Megamix to a game that has been distracting me from my law school books for a while. Dj Hero really is a cool game and has some great music. There is an official soundtrack, but it’s not “club friendly.” Its really cut up and choppy and sounds like the music was made for a game rather than game was made for the music. Meaning it has a lot of unnecessary cuts and scratches only because the game developers wanted the player to keep doing “something.” So I will be remixing the Dj Hero remixes and make them sound like they deserve to be in club rather than sounding like they were made for a little kids game. Obviously that may take a while, so this week’s mix may be a little late.

So I am keeping on track and releasing mixes on time. This is a another Dance mix (with some Pop) of new songs for the month of March. This new mix has some really good builds ups and transitions (if I do say so myself). Of course, I now have comments, so please feel free to leave your thoughts on the mix.

Before I begin, let me say I am not paid by Monster or the Beats by Dre product line and this post isn’t a review of the product (though I have posted reviews from others). I figure most people visiting my site are music lovers, so I thought I would pass along the information, in case haven’t heard of these headphones. I give Rihanna “props” for being creative. I always like it when Artist go the “extra mile” with their music videos. There was a time, a few years back, when all you saw was nice cars and girls. Now every artist is starting to realizing that their videos are just as important as their music in reference to creativity. A big reason is because many Djs have now started to show video while they preform. So just like boring music would be bad, so would having a boring movie. To sum it all up, the song is catchy and the video is very creative.

After a lot of request I am finally going to allow comments on my posts. I have been reluctant to do so only because I didn’t want a lot spam or “hate comments” from people. Not that I think my music is bad or anything.

I will only allow comments on certain parts of my website. For now that only includes my mixes. Reason being, is that I don’t want strangers commenting on other’s people work on my website. I have been known to posts videos or links from other people. If you want to tell the author what you think of their work, then you should probably go to his site and leave feedback there.

Anyway there is a little more to say about the matter but its really not all that important. But Hit the break to get the in depth scoop on what will and will not commentable. (which isn’t a word)

Also, I am only allowing comments on my mixes because that is the only thing I want critiques on. I do post pictures and videos of my shows, but I don’t want people commenting on how ugly a girl is or how cute a guy looks in one of those videos or pictures.

En-between making mixes, I like to post things that are interesting to me. This week I am posting the video for Ludacris’s – “How Low Can You Go” Official music video. The reason I post this is because the video is very clever. Ludicris could very easily just have made another “booty-shaker” video (especially with a song like this), but decided to be a little bit more creative in his approach. I have to give kudos to an artist that goes the extra mile. That alone is worth showing the video. This is a prime example of what separates long veterans in the music industry vs. newbies/one-hit-wonders. I am sure I will be able to use this tracks in one of my upcoming mixes. Enjoy!

There is no way I can take claim to this… to be honest I don’t even know how this guy does this. I do know that I have been following this Dj’s career since I started Dj’ing. He wrote a book about Dj’ing and creating this type of music mixes (called mash-ups), and is just a regular genius. This a mix of the top 25 songs of 2009. I don’t think by top, the Dj means Billboard, but rather just popular songs of that year. There’s not to much more to say other than watch the vid and enjoy. I figured I join the crowd and start a news years resolution. I always do my best to stay with my resolution when I make it. I know I have been slacking on the site for a little while, but I promise for this day forward there will be post at least ONCE A WEEK. I think now that I have gotten into the swing of law school, I can afford to give more time to Dj’ing and this website. I have some other resolutions too, but for those of you who are “anti-reading,” basically I will be making at least one mix a week, adding photos and videos of my gigs to the site and adding some key features/bug fixes to this site as well:

1. More Mixes

I plan on producing a new mix every week. But unlike some Djs, every mix will be of a different of genre or theme within the same month. For example, I will never have two hip-hop mixes in one month or two Dance mixes. I may have a mix like a “Drake” MegaMix and a hip-hop mix, but themed mixes are different than just genre mixes.

2. More Photos/Videos

As soon as I get some gigs out here in Chicago, I promise to start uploading pictures and videos. I haven’t really been trying too hard to get hired in the big city, law school has just been too hectic, but since I am now used to the grind of law school, I think I can cut out some time to start performing again (and man do I miss it)

3. Website Updates

This has been something I have been meaning to do for a very long time. There are little bugs and glitches throughout the site that I have been meaning for fix. In addition, there are some things I want to change and some things that I want to update. Adding comments is the first thing I will allow. I have been reluctant to allow comments on my site only because I don’t see it as a place where people come to socialize. So I would only be inviting people to say negative things. More often than not people will tell you that they don’t like something over telling you they do like it. But after receiving some complaints, I will finally allow you guys to post comments to my mixes, but nothing else. Lastly I will also be changing the download process for the site, we have tried many different ways but now I think we can finally reach a the best way of getting my mixes to your iPods.

Any way look for the updates soon, I plan on having all the changes done by the end of the week if not sooner

My man Ean Golden does again with his innovative new product the MiDi Fighter. MiDi fighter is a custom cue point and beat juggling machine. It is meant to supplement a Dj’s current equipment (mixer, turntable etc) and holds itself more as a “drum pad machine.” I am currently a little short on cash right now, but as soon as I get some money this will be one of the first devices I buy… that and a USB hub so I can have more than one controller plugged into my macbook. I think its pretty well known that after I graduated from The University of Illinois, I went onto law school at DePaul College of Law. Since I started law school, I have not been able to give any time to my music, much to my fans dismay. Since finals have started my negligence has gotten even worse, but while sitting in the library, trying to study, I can’t stop thinking about mixing. So I am not going to deny myself (or you) any longer and I will be releasing 3 (yes, three) new mixes over the next two weeks. Dance Mix: December 9, 2009

I know a lot of you loved the November dance mix I made, so this will be first genre I mix. I have a lot of good tracks in mind and I really want to use Deadmau5 – Ghost N’ Stuff at some point during the mix. I plan on keeping the whole mix upbeat and “happy” (yes, music can have feeling).

Rock Hop Mix: December 12, 2009

This is one of my favorite genres to mix. A little term I coined myself, Rock Hop is a mix of popular rock music with hip hop. This sometimes involves Hip Hop vocals over Rock instrumentals, but more often its rock vocals over hip hop beats. This is also a genre I find really hard to mix. Rock by itself is difficult for me to mix. I don’t have a lot of time to practice it, so its hard for me to cut probably. And to make matters worse, I am planning on mixing some Linkin Park with some hip hop track. Linkin Park has a lot screaming and hard metal sounds that are hard to mix over. I still haven’t decided what songs to use, but I know whatever I pick is not going to be the easiest to transition into or out of.

Hip Hop Mix: December 18, 2009

My personal favorite genre of music, I am really excited to make another hip-hop mix. That is why I am saving it for last. I hope all the mixes are great, but I think this one will be the best. I usually do more “mainstream” hip hop with my mixes, but this time I gonna make it real “hood.” The mix will contain a lot of Gucci Mane and deep bass beats. Also, I will also be throwing in some older hip hop, not old school necessarily, but just a year or two old

I will admit that when I first started Dj’ing, I was not a big fan of techno or house music, but over the years it has really grown on me. As I made more dance mixes (mixes that use popular songs with techno beats), I began to really appreciate the genre. I also think mainstream is imitating more of that type of music. Artist and music groups like LMFAO, Flo Rida and even Akon have become very successful incorporating Techno into their music. Anyway, above is a new song by Deadmau5 (pronounced “Dead-Mouse”). I have never heard of him until the release of this track, but its pretty catchy and as soon as I get more time I am going to find a way to incorporate into a mix. And don’t worry more mixes on the way soon!

This is a mix that is hard to classify and even harder to mix. I wasn’t sure what to call it, but I think the title “Rock Hop” is very approrpriate. Its a combination of popular rock songs and popular hip hop songs. I actually really like the songs in the mix, not necessarily the mix itself though.

I have been meaning to do this FOREVER! After seeing my guys at Dj TechToolsI have been wanting to try it out myself. Now even though I am have a very strong technical background by degree, there is still a lot about computers, electronics, circuitry, that I still don’t understand. So having to cut open my VCI-100 was pretty scary. But needless to say, I completed the job and it looks pretty damn good (if I say so myself). This is a hilarious video that was provided to me via Dj Tech Tools. Regardless of where I found this video, I think its hilarious. Watch the vid and let me know what you think.

Once again, I got another video from my guys at Dj Tech Tools. This video really is cool and sort of puts in perspective the way some beats and musical rifts are made or inspired. Producers like Pharrell and Timberland, often use human made sounds as either inspiration for a beat or as actually part of the beat. And every Dj knows that nothing is better to scratch than an “a capella” sample. So watch the video below and tell me what you think. This is a really crazy cool video. I have never seen anything like it. The craziest part to me is that it actually sounds pretty good. The beats of head drummer and the scratching of the turntables actually go pretty good together. The more I watch it the more I try to take-apart the video and try to figure out how they did it. After a little digging, (and by digging I mean hitting a few google links), I found the producer’s website.</p>

<p>I highly recommend that everyone check out the site and the behind the scenes photos of how they created the video. If you really enjoyed it like I did, shoot them an email and tell them what you liked about it. Believe it or not people really do like random praise. There is nothing wrong giving someone their props when they are due. In addition, by praising that person you give them the emotional and “self-esteem” fuel to continue their craft, take bigger risks and keep making good art. ANd when they create good art, you get to be entertained y it. So its a win-win situation</p>

Logos are a big part of marketing… anything. Logos can make a break a product, help you remember a person or even tell keep you out of danger. For instance the picture to the left automatically tells says “music.” If you were using a program and needed to know which button let you listen to music, your first choice would be to pick the button with this symbol on it.

The same goes for Djs. Djs need a logo which expresses themselves, the music they play, and the fans they want to attract. Being a Dj on a budget, I had to create my Logos.

When thinking about what to write in my first blog post, I was very perplexed. This whole “blog” concept is very knew to me. I doubt there are any people out there who really care what a first year law student aspiring to be a professional Dj has to say.  With that being said, this first post will be about what I plan to do with this site.

Read on to learn what is the purpose of this website as well as what I have in store for the future of this site.

The first goal of this website, is to give my fans (past, present and future) news about my shows. Not only do I want to inform them on where I will be but  I want to reward them for following me.  By reward, I mean letting them know of specials the clubs might have and how to take advantage of them. Many times clubs give Dj the ability to get a certain amount of people in free. Usually Djs just give this type of access to their friends or use this privilege to pick-up pretty girls waiting in line. I feel like I should give this access to the people supporting me. So every show I have I will be giving away ALL my access passwords to get my fans in for free. At this time I haven’t decided how I will give away the passwords (if they are limited) but stay tuned…

The second goal of this website is to give my fans behind-the-scene photos and videos of my shows. The Chicago club scene is full of celebrities and crazy moments. When I have these experiences I will document them with photos, videos and blog posts. Additionally, if I learn in advance that a particular celebrity will be at one of my shows, I will ask my fans for any questions they may have of the celebrity, almost like an impromptu interview.

The last and most important goal of this site is to spread my music. I promise to ALWAYS GIVE AWAY my mixes for FREE. As a Dj my primary source of income should be from live shows. I have always described myself as a “crowd Dj” thus implying that my main skill is keeping club-goers happy. Also, the music I am playing, I didn’t make; I only remixed. So I don’t feel like I have any ownership to it to make money off it. To be honest, most fans don’t really care about my mixing, but rather the music I play. So that is why I plan on giving away all my mixes. Also, subscribe to my podcast and get automatic updates with my latest mixes. Lastly, I am always looking for new music and mash-ups, so when I find new music (even if it isn’t mine) I will post it on the site and give you the option to download it.

Anyway, that is the purpose of this site. I hope you enjoy my mixes and feel free to contact me with any comments or concerns.
